Catching up

It has been a long time since I have been on here, but I have been very busy with teaching, tutoring, and college.  Of course, I try to have some time for my social life, but it is limited.  I am very excited with graduating in May at Marshall University with my Library Media Certification Pre-K to Adult.  I have thought about going for another certification or degree but not sure yet.  I really enjoy working with the high school students.  Several of them feel comfortable to come and talk about me with their problems and concerns.  I hope that I help them. So, I have thought about going in to counseling..lol..I know when am I going to finish school?!

update on my career thus far

It has been a long time since I have posted anything on here, but it has been a very busy year. After I got my master's degree in learning with technology, I decided to go for another master's
program at Ashford.  This time I chose to pursue a higher education specialization so I can
eventually become a professor in a college.  I have set high goals for myself but they are
attainable as long as I dedicate and discipline myself to not give up on them.  I only have
three classes left after I finish this one in two weeks.  I graduate January, 2013.  I am totally
pumped up about it!
This year, I will be embarking on a new adventure teaching high school.  I will be a library-
media specialist at my old alma mater, Oak Hill High School.  I will be teaching library skills and Globaloria, a computer game design program.  I won't lie I am nervous about going from
elementary students for 28 years to high school students, but with the good Lord's help and
fellow colleagues, I feel I will do fine.  So here is to a new start!

I am truly thankful for my Lord getting me through this journey with the help of my family and friends supporting and encouraging me to not give up. Thanks to all of those who have been there for me. Is the weekend here yet?

What a week it has been for me! I am so ready for the weekend. I got my nerve up today and resigned my position from Faculty Senate chairperson. I contemplated it for days, but I finally decided it was best for me as well as my students. With college and teaching along with all the other hats I wear daily, being the chairperson was making me on overload.

Piaget discussion

This week I realized that the philosphy of education lies in how the educator presents the material to the learner. In the past, most classrooms were taught in a lecture setting. Students were passively learning  material through rote memorization, repetitions, and drills. Today, the educator actively engages the students through various strategies and technological advancements. The challenges lie in making a well balanced approach to learning and still convey to the learner the necessary skills to be an effective 21st century learner. As a teacher, I have used a variety of styles and strategies in my teaching throughout the years. One thing I have tried to stress to my students is the importance of learning for tomorrow.  Students need to develop lifelong learning strategies to achieve success.
